Being a single mom right now means balancing work and kids. However, I still have to make time for myself in the midst of everything. I have been dedicated to finding reliable child care, especially on weekends. I have came up with a way to still be able to have a life outside of motherhood while working a 9-5 and without help of the co-parent on rotating weekends.

Here is what I have done to make that R & R time work out for me.
1. Setting Aside a Sitter Fund
I set aside a fixed amount from each paycheck for child care, treating it like a bill. I calculate the total cost per month and divide it by my paychecks each two weeks. So I am taking about 60 to 80 dollars out of each pay check for this fund.
2. Cost-Effective & Reliable Sitters
To save money, I use local babysitting networks, pre-scheduled agreements with trusted sitters, and using local sitters from Facebook that are trusted have been helping me.
3. Budgeting for Uber and Lyft
As I don't have a car, I do budget in part of my budget for Uber and Lyft rides. I estimate my monthly travel expenses based on past usage and include this in my overall budget plan. I also try to plan at least two weeks in advance for the trip, food, and time out that will be spent.
4. Budgeting Outfits
Additionally, I budget for outfits to wear. Each month, I set aside a specific amount to buy clothing that fits within my lifestyle needs and preferences, ensuring I stay stylish without overspending. I make sure to have my makeup on point and nails as well. Press on nails and clear polish have been setting the tone for me. Hair care is often simple and in touch with my personality.
Final Thoughts
Balancing a 9-to-5 job, child care, and budgeting without a car has been a learning process. However, these two strategies setting aside a sitter fund and using cost-effective sitter options have made it much easier. I have to pour into me and I am all about planning ahead and being intentional with money. I can keep everything running smoothly for myself and my kids without steadily feeling as if I am in survival mode all the time.
